The principle underlying card counting is if a deck of cards has more of Aces and tens it is advantageous to the player, and a deck with more of the smaller cards like 2’s and 6’s offers an advantage to the dealer. Cards with value of 7, 8, 9 are considered as neutral cards. A lot of aces and tens in a deck is liable to cause the dealer to bust often.

The skilled blackjack player has to keep a track of cards that have been played and allocate point values to every card to figure out if the deck is rich with high cards or if it is otherwise. It is a complex process of calculation, but essentially the card counter allots a plus point when the deck is more favorable and a minus point when it is less favorable.

So in this way a skilled high roller blackjack player can actually achieve an edge over the house by placing higher bets when he finds that the player has an advantage over the dealer.

If you find that after the first round has been played and more of aces and 10’s are remaining, increase the base level bet by four times. If you find more small cards remaining, just make a base level bet.

During the subsequent rounds of play, keep on adjusting your bet in accordance with the ratio of large to small remaining cards in the deck. Increase the bet when if you find more of the large cards, and decrease the bet when you find more of the small cards. When a shuffle takes place, repeat a base level bet.

If you keep track of the remaining aces, it could improve your edge further. If you find no clear advantage or otherwise in the ratio of the remaining small and large cards, raise your bet if you find more of aces in the remaining cards, and lower your bet if you find fewer. More remaining aces give an advantage to the player because players are paid 3 to 2 for every blackjack.
